As part of ‘Meet in a Noodle - BFM Art Marathon

Hosted by BFM Art Center & Wild Fruits Community.

On January 17, 2026, at Lao Hengjing Noodle Shop on Changxing Street, Suzhou, KIMVI presented One Minute Sculpture of Noodle Utencils, supported by BFM / Wild Fruit Project. This two-hour workshop, inspired by Austrian artist Erwin Wurm’s One Minute Sculpture series, introduces children aged 8–12 to contemporary sculpture and performance through a game-like format. Using simple props and one-minute pose instructions, participants become living still sculptures, both artist and artwork. Ten young makers used bowls and chopsticks as links between imagination and reality, with their bodies as the central material. Through step-by-step challenges, solo discovery, partner trust-building, and collective empathy, they explored physical stability and focus, collaboration and dialogue with objects, and imaginative ways to enliven the everyday.

The choice of materials and venue is central to the workshop. Bowls and chopsticks are familiar, ordinary, and culturally specific tableware; their simplicity lowers the barrier to participation and turns them into flexible sculptural props that connect imagination with reality and encourage dialogue between the body and everyday things. Lao Hengjing Noodle Shop, a nostalgic, everyday restaurant in Suzhou with the familiar smell of pork-bone broth and scallions, makes the workshop site-specific. Art is embedded in daily life rather than confined to a gallery, and the restaurant becomes a makeshift laboratory in which an ordinary commercial space is reframed as a community-based creative site. The session closed with presentations and sharing; the children left smiling, and the shop returned to business. With a game-like openness, an ordinary setting became a space for creative exploration.
